They are more afraid of the outside world than the deviants within their own community. The deviants threaten individuals here or there, but the outside world threatens everyone and the entire structure of their world.

The Other Side is a feature length drama, loosely based on true events.  The film takes place in Brooklyn, NY, and explores the dichotomy between the extreme Hasidic Jewish, community, living right next door to a very hipster, artistic community.

“The Other Side” explores the dichotomy between the secular hipsters and Hasidic Jews in the two halves of Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  Jacob, a young Hasidic Jew has always had questions, much to the chagrin of his family and teachers.  In an effort to clear his head and reconnect with God he goes to the Mikveh where he accidentally witnesses a horrifying act on a young boy by one of the elder religious leaders.  Alienated by what he saw he turns to Hannah, a secular girl he met when he went out once in disguise.  Both wary and intrigued about Jacob's way of life, she vows to help him expose the religious leader for what he is.  In the process Hannah tries to deal with her own demons by setting off a firestorm in the religious community.  As Jacob is brutally stripped of the life he had always known he and Hannah try to fight a culture that closes their senses to the atrocities around them.  As they struggle with the force of an entire community just maybe they are able to develop real feelings they can communicate for the first time in either of their lives.
